Excursion to the museum-apartment of Vasyl Velychkovsky

With the support of the NGO Public Movement "Social Unity", deaf Lviv residents and guests continue to travel around Lviv.

A museum dedicated to the life and work of Blessed Vasyl Velychkovsky was recently opened in the very center of the city. This prominent Ukrainian church leader was a disciple of Patriarch Josyf Slipyj, a missionary in Volyn, a bishop, and a prisoner of Soviet concentration camps and prisons.

The museum is located in the apartment where the martyr lived between his two imprisonments. This small room holds many secrets, events, and human experiences. It was here, in the underground church, that he held services, met with the faithful, and carried out the hard work of a missionary.

The apartment has been restored to its original condition. Here you can see the furniture, books, personal belongings of the blessed man, as well as the cabinet that served as an altar during worship. The most valuable exhibits are the relics of the blessed man, which were transferred from Winnipeg, where he died.

The museum is not only an important spiritual center for believers, but also a valuable historical monument. It tells about a difficult and tragic period in the life of the Ukrainian people, about the struggle for freedom of faith and national identity.

We thank you for the extremely interesting story of Taras the Wise about the life of the Blessed with sign language interpretation by Olena Chernysheva.
