Excursion to the Kvitka Cisyk Museum, Lviv

Excursion to the Kvitka Cisyk Museum, Lviv

In April Lviv opened the doors to a unique tour – a special experience for a group of deaf people. Thanks to the initiative of the Public Movement "Social Unity" NGO, visitors had the opportunity to deepen their knowledge of the life and work of Kvitka Cisyk, an American singer of Ukrainian descent, famous as an opera and blues singer, as well as a popular singer of advertising jingles in the United States.

The tour was conducted with sign language interpretation provided by Olena Chernysheva. This allowed a group of visitors with hearing impairments to fully perceive the information and experience every moment of the tour.
The museum is located in a symbolic place on the street that connects the names of Lincoln and Khvylovy, symbolising the bridge between America and Ukraine. The museum's exposition immersed visitors in the world of Kvitka's work, presenting her personal belongings, stage boots, gloves, jewellery boxes, favourite poppies that she used to decorate her dresses, as well as sheet music with her song manuscript, concert posters, albums with her songs and a documentary about her life. She is a singer of Ukrainian folk and pop songs. She managed to make two discs of Ukrainian songs. According to Kvitka herself, these albums were not business projects, they were a gift for all Ukrainians, no matter where they lived in the world, music for the soul, a memory of their homeland. Unfortunately, the singer was never able to visit the Ukrainian land, although she was fond of Ukrainian songs all her life and was brought up in Ukrainian traditions. She died prematurely of an illness at the age of 45.

An important part of the tour was watching a film about Kvitka Tsysyk. The film covered not only her creative achievements, but also personal, pleasant and sad moments from her life.

This format of visiting the museum was an unforgettable experience, especially important in the context of creating conditions for equal access to cultural values.

Visitors expressed their gratitude to the organisers for the opportunity to touch the legacy of the great singer, preserving the memory of her contribution to world culture.
