In May, an unforgettable excursion to the Scientific Library of the Ivan Franko National University of Lviv was organised for people with hearing impairments at the initiative of the non-governmental organization "Public Movement "Social Unity" and thanks to sign language interpretation by Olena Chernyshova.
This unique library, founded in 1608, has more than 3.5 million volumes and is one of the oldest and richest book collections in Ukraine. The tour participants had the opportunity to learn about the history of the library, its foundation and construction, as well as to get acquainted with interesting facts and secrets hidden behind the ancient walls.
A group of people with hearing impairments examined wall paintings, catalogues, antique furniture and priceless book rarities. Then they climbed the ancient staircase and entered the rooms where the library's collections, shelves, elevator, as well as "arrested" and "injured" books are stored.
The scale of the collections, the richness of history and the unique atmosphere of this temple of science and knowledge amazed everyone. The participants received unforgettable impressions and enriched themselves with new interesting knowledge.
We look forward to new meetings and even more interesting events!
