Download — "Employment of people with disabilities: best practices."
Addressing the issue of effective employment of people with disabilities is of particular importance during the post-war reconstruction of Ukraine, the return of Ukrainian defenders and civilians affected by hostile aggression to civilian life after rehabilitation, and the support of economic activity of people with disabilities in Ukraine.
For many years, when the Soviet and post-Soviet approaches to people with disabilities prevailed in Ukraine, their economic activity was significantly and in many cases artificially limited by ineffective state policies. The employment of people with disabilities was also hindered by insufficient information and awareness-raising activities, primarily with employers, on the adaptation of workplaces to the needs of people with disabilities. Combined with the overall low level of awareness and involvement of Ukrainian society in disability issues, this has created preconditions for the formation of a number of stereotypes among employers about the economic passivity of people with disabilities, their inability to be effectively employed, their inability to perform their job function, and the burdensome nature of adapting workplaces to the needs of people with disabilities.
In order to both refute the most common stereotypes and provide employers with practical recommendations on how to establish interaction with people with disabilities in the workplace, and to provide specific examples of workplace adaptation for people with disabilities, the Open International University of Human Development "Ukraine" based on the results of the XXI International Scientific and Practical Conference "Inclusive Educational Environment: Problems, Prospects, Best Practices", held with the support of the Friedrich Ebert Foundation in Ukraine,
This methodological guide combines recommendations on the employment of people with disabilities for employers, specialists, teachers of inclusive vocational pre-university and higher education institutions, and for people with disabilities themselves.
We are publishing this methodological guide in order to familiarize as many interested audiences as possible with its materials and to promote the economic activity of people with disabilities in Ukraine.
