Visit to St. Sophia of Kyiv as part of the Week of the Deaf

Today we had an incredible excursion to the National Conservation Area "St. Sophia of Kyiv" as part of a week of events organized by the NGO Public Movement "Social Unity" on the occasion of the International Day of the Deaf.

The first stop of our event was a sightseeing tour of St. Sophia Cathedral. We plunged into the world of ancient architecture and history of Kyivan Rus-Ukraine. We learned a lot of interesting things about this main metropolitan church, where historical events took place, and were amazed by the incredible complex of mosaic and fresco paintings of the 11th century. Especially impressive was the image of Our Lady of Oranta and the gilded wooden iconostasis of the XVIII century. And, of course, we couldn't help but visit the burial place of the great Kyivan prince Yaroslav the Wise.

After that, we went on a sightseeing tour of the St. Sophia Museum. Here we learned even more about this outstanding monument of ancient Russian art, examined the interior architecture of the cathedral and monumental paintings. The story about the murals of the altars of St. Sophia Cathedral was especially fascinating, especially the south altar dedicated to the Archangel Michael.

This day was full of new knowledge and impressions about the history and culture of Ukraine. We thank the management of the National Conservation Area "St. Sophia of Kyiv" for joining the celebration of the Week of the Deaf and giving us an unforgettable experience.
