Have you ever wondered how Valentine's Day is celebrated in different countries of the world?
In general, traditions in all countries only differ a little from each other. There are just a few minor elements.
In Holland, on this day, a woman can propose to a man she likes. If the man refuses, he should give her a silk dress.
In Japan, the stronger half of humanity receives more gifts than women. At the same time, they have a special chocolate "Honmei" - it can be given only to a special man, as they say, "the only one". And here the annual competition for the loudest confession of love takes place. Boys and girls go on a special stage and shout congratulations to their loved ones.
In Denmark, Spain - it is common to give flowers to loved ones on this day, but in France - jewelry. No wonder France is called the "land of love" - the French were the first to greet each other in poetic form.
For the Germans, Saint Valentine is, above all, the patron of the mentally ill. That is why on February 14 all psychiatric hospitals are decorated with red ribbons.
In Canada, only on February 14, a woman can propose to her lover. If he refuses such a "gift", he may be fined or imprisoned.
Icelanders light a fire. The girls put coals around the boys' necks, and the boys give them small stones in return - it is believed that a spark is needed to light a fire, which comes from rubbing stone against stone.
In Bulgaria and Serbia, February 14 is St. Tryphon's Day. This day is considered the end of winter and all the rites and traditions are connected with it.
In Finland, this day is called Friends' Day, and in addition to loved ones, postcards are sent to best friends.
Saudi Arabia and Iran are among the countries that not only don't celebrate Valentine's Day, but they officially forbid the holiday, and anyone who thinks of celebrating it will be fined. Here you will not find red roses, teddy bears, or valentines in the shops.
Interestingly, some countries have slightly shifted Valentine's Day. For example, the Spaniards celebrate Valentine's Day on May 1, and the Brazilians - on June 12.
It doesn't matter how you celebrate this day, the main thing is to tell your loved ones more often that we appreciate and love them, because it is so important.
We wish you love and more charming, tender, and romantic moments in life!
