The project was created and implemented by the non-governmental organization Public Movement “Social Unity” which represents the interests of people with hearing impairments in Ukraine.

Legal Basis for the Initiative
✔ Article 21 of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities — for people with hearing impairments, this is the right to receive information in accessible formats, including through the use of technology and sign language.
✔ National Strategy for Creating a Barrier-Free Environment in Ukraine by 2030 — Information Accessibility as a Priority of Public Policy.
WHY THE SL CHILDREN'S BOOK PROJECT IS INNOVATIVE FOR UKRAINE
Until now, children who use sign language have had only one format for reading — printed text — without taking into account their natural language of communication: sign language.
BOOK + INTEGRATION OF SL
The introduction of new-format publications in libraries, inclusive resource centers, and educational institutions is a concrete step toward equal opportunities and proof of Ukraine’s progress in providing social protection for people with disabilities.
