"Barrier free Ukraine for the Deaf: Creating Conditions for Social Adaptation of People with Hearing Impairments" is a project with which the non-governmental organization Public Movement “Social Unity” won the competition announced by the Fund for Social Protection of the Disabled.
The implementation period is until the end of 2021.
It is a program about ensuring equal rights and opportunities for Deaf and Hard of Hearing people in various spheres of life: education, work, culture, physical education and sports, and others. Communication is an integral part of everyday life. Many Ukrainians do not even think about how people with hearing loss, who face several communication and psychological barriers daily, live. That is why there is a center for social support of Deaf and Hard of Hearing people, where qualified sign language interpreters work 24/7. Every Ukrainian with a hearing impairment has an opportunity to call an interpreter at any convenient time when the need arises. The mobile application “Translator SL” is available around the clock, without breaks for lunch and weekends, where interpreters connect to the dialogue within 10 seconds (up to 1 minute).

To fulfill the tasks of the program "Barrier free Ukraine for the Deaf: Creating Conditions for Social Adaptation of People with Hearing Impairments", the non-governmental organization Public Movement “Social Unity” will provide 1000 Deaf and Hard of Hearing Ukrainians (who use sign language) access to sign language interpreters in the application “Translator SL”. Each user who applies will be given 270 minutes (4.5 hours) to communicate with the interpreter.
