For more than 10 years, the non-governmental organization Public Movement "Social Unity" has been working to create a barrier-free space for people with hearing impairments, and from 2021 it has been expanding its activities and has been working for all people with various forms of disabilities. Since 2015, we have initiated projects and implemented them by our own efforts, together with people who care what Ukraine will be like. Representatives of the non-governmental organization joined the Council of Barrier-free as part of the implementation of the National Strategy for the barrier-free space in Ukraine, initiated by Olena Zelenska.
Over the years, the team has participated in a variety of events, shared achievements, experience and expert opinions both at the state level and with foreign partners. A large number of projects have been implemented to fulfill the tasks of the large-scale project "Barrier free country" and we do not stop on the achieved. We are currently setting the following goals to ourselves:
EQUAL RIGHTS AND OPPORTUNITIES
To involve government and business representatives to solve the accessibility and communication issues in the society of people with various forms of disabilities
SOCIAL ADAPTATION
To enhance the participation of people with various forms of disabilities in the life of the community, to facilitate a comfortable life in society and to ensure the protection and defense of their rights
COMPETITIVENESS IN THE LABOR MARKET
To help people with various forms of disabilities to get an education, find a job taking into consideration the specificities of their worldview and health
To achieve these goals, representatives of the non-governmental organization work closely with the Office of the President of Ukraine, heads of parliamentary committees and deputies of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, key Ministries of Ukraine, regional leaders and other representatives of the executive branch. Thanks to cooperation with local communities, on the basis of Memoranda of Partnership, by the end of 2020 more than 1 million citizens with hearing impairments got free access to a full-inclusive space.
