100% store accessibility: the Barrier-Free Foxtrot project is building inclusive retail

We are delighted to be working on the development of the Barrier-Free Foxtrot project, which has been running in partnership with our organization since June 2023. Today, we can proudly say that what began as a pilot initiative is now a systematic partnership and a successful approach to ensuring inclusivity..

Doubts disappear with achievements – rising to the 100 mark

During May 2025, the Foxtrot chain expanded its sign language service coverage to 70 stores in various regions of Ukraine, and in June 2025, the Barrier-Free Foxtrot network was expanded to 100 stores offering sign language services. This means that people with hearing impairments can now receive qualified consultations not only in regional centers, but also in smaller cities such as Brovary, Mukachevo, Stryi, Nizhyn, Nikopol, Kremenchuk, Podilsk, and many others..

Considering that by the end of July 2025, Foxtrot had 126 stores in 68 locations across the country, the company achieved 100 % network accessibility for people with hearing impairments in July..

The online services we helped implement have proven to be extremely effective: using Connect Pro or a QR code, customers can instantly connect to an online sign language interpreter. For those who shop online, the "Vushko" web widget on the Foxtrot.ua website provides simultaneous communication with the contact center and interpreter..

Integration – personalization (accessibility via DEAF ID)

A particularly important step was the integration of the DEAF ID electronic certificate for deaf people into the Foxtrot loyalty program in 2024. This decision allows people with hearing impairments:

  • Receive personalized offers and discounts quickly.
  • Avoid additional status verification procedures.
  • Take advantage of special conditions without unnecessary procedures.
  • Get equal access to all the benefits of the loyalty program.

This is not just a technical innovation – it is recognition of the right of people with hearing disabilities to equality of opportunity and dignity in the consumption process..

A comprehensive approach to accessibility

The Foxtrot network is not limited to sign language services. The company is systematically working to create a physically accessible space.:

  • Installation of induction loops to improve sound quality for hearing aid users.
Adaptation of premises for people who use wheelchairs, canes, or crutches.
Creation of a special section called "Review on Khoch (what you want)!" with the participation of sign language interpreters.

Social significance of the project

As a public organization working on social inclusion issues, we understand the importance of such initiatives for building a truly inclusive society. The Barrier-Free Foxtrot project demonstrates:

  • The economic feasibility of inclusion: people with disabilities are full-fledged consumers, and businesses have a real advantage from this.
  • Technological capabilities: modern online sign language interpreter services make it easy to overcome communication barriers.
  • Social responsibility: large companies can and should be drivers of positive change in society.

Challenges and prospects

Despite our achievements, we understand that there is still a lot of work ahead. Our bold plan is to scale similar practices across the entire retail and service sector in Ukraine. Our experience of working with Foxtrot shows that this is entirely feasible with a systematic approach and determination.

Ensuring accessibility is not a tribute to trends, but the foundation of a fair society.

Thanks for your determination

We express our sincere gratitude to the Foxtrot team, with whom we work closely, and especially to Lesya Nikulina, head of the trade marketing department and project curator, for her consistency in implementing the principles of inclusivity.
