Where to turn if you are a victim of violence

The perpetrator of violence may be punished by the law. Because the object of the crime is a person's health, will, honor or dignity. Violence can be: physical, psychological, economic and sexual. In domestic violence, all these types of violence are often combined.

As part of the project "Barrier Free Ukraine for the Deaf: Countering Violence against Women with Hearing Impairments” the non-governmental organization talks about the types of violence and ways to counteract it (see previous videos). We inform the community of Deaf and Hard of Hearing girls and women about where to go and where to turn if they are victims of domestic violence:

  • The first thing the victim has to do is contact the police (102), or go to the nearest police station and write a statement.
  • If you have injuries to your body, seek medical attention (103) and record them.
  • Call the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 116 123 (available 24 hours a day).
  • You can call the hotline for victims of domestic violence (around the clock and free of charge) at 15-47.
  • To receive free legal aid, call 0 800 213 103;
  • If a child has been abused, contact the children's services. According to the law, a child in the presence of whom violence was committed is not a witness to the situation, but a victim.
  • If you realize that you have psychological problems – be sure to seek the help of a psychologist.

It is important to know about the special measures provided by law and used to combat domestic violence:

  • A restriction order that prohibits an offender to meet a victim, and visit the place of common residence.
  • Urgent restriction order that prohibits the offender from searching for the victim.
  • There is also a prohibition of correspondence on social networks with the victim, or through their relatives or friends.

The non-governmental organization Public Movement "Social Unity" continues to talk about actions in cases of violence and how to counteract it. We are implementing the project "Barrier Free Ukraine for the Deaf: Countering Violence against Women with Hearing Impairments” with the support of the Fund for Social Protection of the Disabled, the Ministry of Social Policy of Ukraine and the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine.
