In Ukraine, hearing-impaired citizens cannot change their voting address

More than three months have passed since the Central Election Commission approved the procedure for changing the election address. However, there are no statistics in Ukraine on how many people with hearing impairments have taken advantage of this opportunity, especially among the IDPs.

After a meeting with the Secretary of the NGO "Social Unity" Social Unity Anton Gulidin, FRONT-OFFICE of Luhansk region, Donetsk region, and the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, given the numerous appeals of people with the status of internally displaced persons many problems not only with the election process, filed a number of appeals to the authorities.

People with hearing impairments have problems crossing the entry/exit checkpoints. There are no specialists who can help people with hearing impairments and there are no sign language interpreters. Deaf people cannot receive quality services from social services (because there are no specialists who can communicate in sign language), the same situation exists everywhere: in banking institutions and medical institutions of Ukraine.

In this regard, the coordinators of the public initiative Front-Office appealed to the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Social Policy and Protection of Veterans 'Rights Halyna Tretyakova with a request to consider the possibility of solving existing problems at the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Social Policy and Veterans' Rights and hold a relevant hearing in the Committee with the invitation of representatives of the public initiative Front-Office and representatives of public organizations of hearing-impaired persons from Luhansk and Donetsk regions and the Autonomous Republic of Crimea to develop proposals to protect the rights of internally displaced persons with hearing impairments.
