How to deal with anxiety

In the life of each of us, it happens that self-confidence and strength are lost, decisions are more difficult to make, and depression and stress lead us to think that something is wrong with us. Anxiety is characterized by emotional and physical stress, negative thoughts, and a lack of confidence in the future. We know very well that if you have a toothache – you need to see a dentist, if your heart hurts – visit a cardiologist. And what to do when the soul hurts, and the head is full of negative thoughts? Few people in such cases make an appointment with a psychologist but in vain.

The non-governmental organization Public Movement "Social Unity" continues to implement the project "Countering Violence against Women with Hearing Impairments" within the framework of the "Barrier Free Ukraine for the Deaf" program and covers the topic of domestic violence. Our goal is to provide as much information as possible on how to act in cases of domestic violence.

It is impossible to protect yourself from all the negativity in life. But living under constant stress is difficult. One must be able to cope and know what to do if one suddenly becomes ill. At first, you can try to cope with anxiety on your own – you know what usually helps you cope with stress – listen to music, dance, talk or meet with friends, play sports. And if none of the options will help you feel better – see a psychologist.

Signs of anxiety are:

  • expectations of bad, irritability;

  • constant fear and anxiety;

  • unwillingness to communicate even with relatives;

  • chronic fatigue, muscle pain;

  • headache or abdominal pain;

  • sleep problems.

  • It is necessary to begin work on overcoming anxiety with proper breathing.

To do this, find a place where no one will disturb you.

  • Put your hands on your stomach and start breathing with your stomach.

  • Inhale through the nose, exhale through the mouth. When inhaling, the abdomen should inflate, not the chest.

  • Repeat this exercise several times until you feel that the anxiety has decreased.

To cope with anxiety helps:

  • Favorite music – modern or classical (many studies indicate that classical piano music relieves tension) – listen to Chopin, Mozart, Strauss, Beethoven, Bach, Tchaikovsky – choose a melody that resonates in your soul and reduces anxiety.

  • Drink tea (make your favorite black, green with lemon, or herbal tea).

  • Devote time to yourself (if there is a situation in your life that scared you and does not need an immediate solution – give yourself time to think, walk in the park or ride the rides).

  • Comedy (one of the easiest ways – to watch a comedy movie as it will distract you from the situation).

  • Favorite activity (remember what brings you maximum pleasure – dancing, singing, embroidery, drawing, etc. Еake the time on your favorite activity and see how it feels).

If all these methods do not work or irritate, increase anxiety – you will need psychological work with consciousness. Visualize plans and dreams, imagine in detail that you already have everything you dream of now. And now start taking steps to fulfill your plans and dreams. However, it is better to consult a psychologist.

As part of the project "Countering Violence against Women with Hearing Impairments" within the program "Barrier Free Ukraine for the Deaf", the non-governmental organization Public Movement "Social Unity" provides opportunities for Deaf and Hard of Hearing women and girls consult a psychologist and get free advice.
