Friends! We would like to thank everyone who sent us the information about socially important infrastructure in your city, which should be checked for accessibility under the program "Barrier free Ukraine for the Deaf: Monitoring the Accessibility of Socially Important Infrastructure".
The non-governmental organization Public Movement "Social Unity" is implementing this program to create equal opportunities for people with hearing impairments in every city of Ukraine, on a par with other citizens.
You asked how the monitoring will be conducted and how it will affect the changes. That's what we are about to talk about.
First. We will visit various institutions that are vital for Deaf and Hard of Hearing people, and find out if the conditions for barrier-free communication are created.
Second. If the conditions are not created, if there are no tools of communication between the representatives of the institution and people with hearing impairments - our team will provide recommendations on how to create a barrier-free space.
Third. If the conditions are created and a Deaf or Hard of Hearing visitor can freely communicate with representatives of the organization - we will add the address of this institution to a special accessibility map.
Accessibility map is a special solution, a map where we add all the organizations and institutions that are adapted to the needs of people with various forms of disabilities. We will tell more about the map in the following video.
The launch of this map is to encourage state and municipal organizations to use the tools of communication between representatives of such facilities with people with hearing impairments as required by the UN Convention on the Rights of People with Disabilities.
"Barrier free Ukraine for the Deaf: Monitoring the Accessibility of Socially Important Infrastructure" is being implemented by the non-governmental organization Public Movement "Social Unity" until the end of 2021, so be sure to write to us if you know which facilities need attention.
