The meeting of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Social Policy and Protection of Veterans' Rights was unique.
Not only because the implementation of the principles of total accessibility in all spheres of public life was professionally and comprehensively discussed, not only because representatives of the wide circle of the general public were invited to talk, but first of all, because for the first time a Deaf person, an activist of the NGO Public Movement "Social Unity", was able to take part in such an important national event. Moreover, not just as a guest, but as a full participant in the meeting!
This is extremely cool! It is worth working for such moments. We are convinced that there will be many such participants in parliamentary committees because Deaf and Hard of Hearing people with various forms of disabilities should feel involved in the public life of the state and feel like valuable citizens in Ukraine.
By the way, our colleagues provided high-quality adaptation of the event (live) in sign language. Therefore, the Deaf and Hard of Hearing throughout Ukraine had the opportunity to understand what issues are being addressed at the meeting and how the principles of barrier-free are planned to be implemented.
