How to take care of relationships in difficult times

If you feel depressed or anxious about all the events, know that it is a normal reaction. However, it also means that you need to monitor your mental health. It was noted by UNICEF Ukraine.

When you spend more time with loved ones during this difficult time, it can cause relationship problems.

Five-minute talks

Be open in communication: even a five-minute conversation with the people you live with can help your relationship. Shared breakfasts or dinners are a great opportunity to talk! A positive conversation in a friendly tone will lift everyone's spirits. But remember, you don't have to always smile, especially when you're feeling bad. It is better to express real emotions.

Realize your own feelings

Figure out what makes you angry, frustrated, upset, or defensive. There is nothing wrong with any of these feelings. What matters is how you handle them. Try to think about what causes these feelings. For example: "my mother criticizes me", "my neighbors are making a mess", "I can't do something", "parents often quarrel".

React consciously, not impulsively

It is easy to react impulsively in a conflict. Here are some constructive options for a reaction: go away, distract yourself, calm down first. Take a few slow breaths and focus on what surrounds you at a particular moment.

Weather. Sounds. Your breath. Try to explain how you feel. Ask for help if you have tried but can't calm down, or if someone else can't calm down.

Open up to those who support you

Think of 5 people in your life. How do you feel about them? How do you feel about them? Choose who to make time for.

Gratitude nourishes the relationship

Thank the 2 people who fill your life with light and strength. It can be a personal meeting, a call, an SMS, a letter, or any other way. If you can't, try to connect with them in your thoughts – in the memories you shared, and thank them.
